Steve Gummer - Executive Director

Steve Gummer brings a wealth of experience… as a player and as a coach… to his position as Coerver Coaching’s Director of Coaching for Georgia.

A native of England, Steve played English Semi-Pro football for more than ten years, and spent 15 months with Switzerland’s FC Vernier, in Geneva.  He has also coached with youth academies attached to several professional clubs in England and Switzerland, including the English FA School of Excellence, the youth academy associated with the governing body of the English Football Association. 

Steve first came to the United States in 1994 ) as a staff coach for International Soccer USA, a group based in Kansas City that organizes camps and tours to Europe with promising American youth soccer players.  After two years with International Soccer, he was promoted to Coaching Director.  In that position he was responsible for developing the summer camp curriculum and implementing the program throughout the Midwest and Southeastern United States.

For the past 10 years, Steve has organized and directed Coerver camps throughout  the State; and in April of 2011, he was named Coerver Coaching’s Director of Coaching for Georgia.

Steve is currently the  Executive Director of Coaching for SSC, a highly regarded club in the Metro Atlanta area.  In that capacity he has installed the "Worlds #1 skills teaching method" into his own club’s curriculum. In addition to his duties as the EDOC, he currently coaches the Boys academy  teams at the club.

Prior to joining SSC in 2014 Steve spent 14 years as the Director of Coaching at Cobb FC and  was a driving force in the forming of Southern Soccer Academy, a club made up of 4  different metro Atlanta Clubs, Cobb FC, Kennesaw FC, West  Metro FC, & West Georgia FC. Steve acted as the Director of Soccer and then the club's Technical Director working with all of the staff and players on the club's technical development plan, and coach education.

During his tenure at the club he has graduated over 60 players who have gone on to become student athletes at Colleges all over the country.In addition to this four of his former players are now earning their living as professional soccer players in Europe and most recently Jack McInerney who now plies his trade with the Philadelphia Union in the MLS.

Steve has also served as a Head Coach for the Georgia ODP program, and is a US Club Id2 scout. His club teams have been very successful in adopting the “Coerver” method into their passing and moving style of play and over the years has won many USYSA tiles, including the prestigious Dallas Cup with his 92 Premier team, Both the 89, and 92 squads were USYSA Region III semi finalists on three occasions.

Steve holds a "B" License from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) along with a USSF "A" License. In 2014 Steve presented as a guest clinician at the NSCAA National Convention, along with this Steve has also delivered sessions at the National Coerver Coaching Convention   held every January.

Nathan Padilla - Director of Operations

Nathan is a native of Topeka, Kansas.  He grew up playing many sports, but soccer became one of his passions.  After High School he took a strong interest in coaching and was hired at Topeka Hayden High School as the Head Boys and Girls JV Coach.  Each team either won or placed in the JV region tournament.  He also has coached at Gilmer and Pickens High School where each squad showed well during his tenure.  Each squad respectively won their mid-season tournaments.

Nathan has 20+ years coaching experience in various roles for YMCA’s in Topeka, KS, Cedar Park, TX, Charlotte, NC and Metro Atlanta.  He has served in roles for clubs at Topeka Select, Siskey YMCA, Chaos Soccer Club, Kennesaw FC, Southern Soccer Academy and NASA-Tophat. His responsibilities included; academy coach, camp director, coach education coordinator, rec director, technical coordinator and volunteer coach.

In addition to being the Recreation Director for NASA TopHat Cherokee & Quest Park, Kennesaw, he is also an instructor at Kennesaw State University where he teaches Principles of Coaching, Aerobic Conditioning/Beginning Weight Training, Walk/Jog for Fitness and Advanced Coaching Methods for Soccer.  He is an associate instructor for United Soccer Coaches.

Nathan holds his Coerver Instructor Diploma, United Soccer Coaches Diplomas, USSF National Youth License, USSF “D” License, his USSF Grassroots license for 4v4, 7v7 and 9v9 and is a National Alliance For Youth Sports (NAYS) Certified Coach.

Tom Wilson

Tom is a native of Tadcaster, England and grew up playing in the youth training system at York City FC and Halifax Town FC. Tom played college soccer for York College in the UK, whilst playing for them he represented North of England colleges. Tom began coaching in the local community working with players of all ages and abilities and also worked as a coach at La Manga Club, Spain for several years.

Tom continued his soccer career in Atlanta for Reinhardt University, where he gained several all conference honors in his time there, while coaching at the club level for CSA Impact and now UFA Norcross. Tom also worked on the North American academy staff for Eredivisie club FC Utrecht. Tom is currently completing his MBA at Reinhardt University.

Tom has close to 10 years coaching experience in the UK, Spain and USA in various roles including camp coaching/directing, select coaching, and academy coaching. Tom is an English FA level 2 qualified coach and a USSF "D" Licensed coach. 

Tom is in his first year with Coerver Coaching GA, but has quickly earned the reputation as being a very good coach. His attention to detail with our technical training curriculum has given many positive comments on his sessions and his delivery as a Coerver coach.

Ryan Robertson

Ryan Robertson brings a discipline and focus to the Coerver team not found in many coaches through his extensive Martial Arts background where he is a 3rd degree Blackbelt. Ryan takes his high energy and disciplined approach into working with youth players and is a specialist in soccer specific speed and agility training. Ryan is currently a full-time coach working with academy boys and u13 - u16 girls teams as well as coaching with Coerver Georgia. Ryan has worked for Coerver Georgia for 2 years and currently holds a USSF C license.

Paul Smith

Paul who originates from Nottingham, England, has worked with Coerver Coaching GA, periodically for the last ten years, During the last two years Paul has acted as one of our senior coaches being instrumental with our summer camp series and performance academies.

Paul enjoyed a professional playing career at the following English clubs - Notts County, Doncaster Rovers, Grimsby Town, and Huddersfield Town between 1991 - 1994. In 1995, Paul attended and played for Methodist University in North Carolina where he earned a B.S. in Physical Education, and in 1996 was named as an NSCAA All American.

Since 1996 Paul has held numerous positions as a Director of Coaching for the following youth soccer clubs, Fayetteville Soccer Association (NC), Charlotte Soccer Club (NC), Concorde Fire Soccer Club (GA), Atlanta Silverbacks (GA), was recently the Owner and Director of the Atlanta Spurs Soccer Club, and is currently a Staff Coach with Gol Soccer Academy in Gwinnett County. During his youth coaching career his teams have won 10 NC State Championships, 3 GA State Championships, 1 Super Y National Championship finalists, 2 USYSL, twice Region Semi Finalists and three time Quarter Finalists.

Paul holds the following qualifications - English FA License, USSF National Youth License. and Coerver Coaching Youth Diploma. Paul is one of our Technical Development Directors and brings a wealth of experience delivering a positive and educational brand of coaching that helps all of our players technical development.

Steve Magennis

Stephen is originally from Dublin, Ireland. He played at the highest levels in Ireland for top clubs such as Shelbourne FC and Shamrock Rovers. He came to the U.S back in 2005 when he accepted a scholarship for the Darton State Cavaliers (CC). After completing his Associates degree (2007) he transferred and played for the Lander University Bearcats. He was a regular starter and helped the Bearcats to a peach belt conference tournament championship (2009). He was a creative and disciplined central midfielder that worked tirelessly for the betterment of the team.

After completing his bachelors degree in Exercise Science (2009), he started working for the former PDL (semi-professional) franchise New Orleans Jesters, as an assistant coach and operations director. Later he was fortunate to be offered an assistants role back at his alma mater, Lander University (2012). As an assistant, he helped the bearcats to a Peach Belt conference championship, 2 national tournament appearances and built a Junior Varisty program. In his most recent role, Stephen operated as the coastal director for Coerver Carolinas and also the technical director for Summerville Soccer Club (2015-16).

Stephen has a wealth of experience in coaching youth. For over a decade he has coached at a multitude of levels including: academy, high school and recreation. He is a charismatic individual and believes soccer provides many great opportunities to shape individuals into dynamic thinkers, both on and off the field. He is a "USSF A" licensed coach and holds a NSCAA premier diploma & Coerver Youth diploma.

Gareth Evans

Gareth is a coach who brings vast playing and coaching experience from a Premier League enviroment having played for Liverpool FC youth Academy for 10 years alongside Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen. After leaving Liverpool as a player, Gareth joined their Academy as a Coach in 2000 and worked with the up and coming professional players until 2008 before coming to the USA to oversee Liverpool's community based projects. Gareth is currently the Boys Academy Director at SSA where he continues to develop players who have the skills and ability to become players at the highest level.

Gareth currently holds a UEFA "B" License and his experience in the professional game has brought a lot to Coerver Georgia over the past 3 years.

Sean Chamberlain

Sean Chamberlain has been a Coerver Staff Coach since 2005. Outside of his coaching duties with Coerver, Sean is the Girls U9-U12 Academy Director for SSA Cntral. one of the biggest girls' academy programs in the state of Georgia. Prior to joining SSA, Sean worked in the front office of the Atlanta Beat of the original Women's United Soccer Association. In his capacity as the Atlanta Beat's community coach, Sean coached players of all ages participating in the Beat's summer camp program as well as supervised Beat player appearances at youth club practices. A native of Liverpool, England, Sean's soccer coaching experiences have taken him as-far-a-field as Japan and Australia. 

In addition to possessing USSF 'C' and 'National Youth' licenses, Sean has a 1st class (with honors) degree in Sports Studies from Stafforshire University in Stoke-On-Trent, England and a Masters degree in Sports Administration from Georgia State University. His research work in the area of anxiety and sport perfomance was published in 2007, and has been cited in numerous studies since.
